KALYANI, 29 APRIL: A two-day national conference on sustainable health science for future generations organized by the Physiology department of Kalyani university in collaboration with the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) ended today at Kalyani university with as many as 175 scientists from across the country shared their exciting and innovative presentations and ideas.
As a part of mainstream conference “Children Science Congress” for secondary and higher-secondary students was also organized to promote scientific culture amongst school students and to sustain future society. More than a hundred school students from around 40 schools in the state participated in the congress and displayed their innovations related to the theme.
The conference was inaugurated by the general secretary of the Indian Science Congress Association and a notable scientist Prof (Dr) Vijay Laxmi Saxena. British Deputy High Commissioner, Kolkata Mr Nick Low was present as a chief guest and distinguished scientist and Past General President of ISCA, Prof (Dr) Ashok Kumar Saxena graced the occasion as a guest of eminence.
Vice-chancellor Dr Manas Kumar Sanyal presided over the inaugural session while Pro-VC Dr Goutam Paul delivered his welcome speech as an organizing president.
While delivering her inaugural speech, Dr Vijay Laxmi Saxena said, “The theme of the conference is very relevant to the present need of the day. In the last 50 years several environmental problems have developed due to mass production, mass consumption and mass waste as a result of economic growth. This has also caused several diseases related to environmental problems such as global warming, global pollution and ozone layer depletion. A multidisciplinary subject, sustainable health science has been established in order to improve global environmental problems.”
Mr Nick Low said there is a need for more financial assistance from the government to promote sustainable health for future generations.
Dr Sanyal, VC of Kalyani University said, “Every corner of the society should play a key role to protect contrary health effects on future generations and also to follow the precautionary principle.”
