KRISHNAGAR, 9 OCT: A 27-year-old girl, who was critically beaten up by her neighbourers two days ago over a land dispute at Fulkalmi under Chapra police station limits in Nadia, succumbed to her injuries in a Kolkata hospital today.
Silpi Mondol (27), who was pursuing higher education, sustained severe head injuries on Thursday when two families were involved in a clash over a land dispute. Silpi was first taken to Chapra rural hospital from where she was referred to a Kolkata hospital as her condition was serious. Today, she succumbed to her injuries in the hospital, a police official said.
According to local residents, Ansar Mondol and his neighbour Nasir Mondol often used to be involved in verbal quarrels over erecting a boundary wall on their adjacent lands. On Thursday, the two families were involved in squabbles which led to a violent turn prompting Nasir and his family members to attack Ansar’s family members. They beat up Ansar’s daughter Silpi. They even hit her head with a brick leaving her critically injured.
Today when her body reached the area, tension prevailed and the family members of the victim demanded immediate arrest of the culprits involved with the attack on them.
The Chapra police, however, arrested Nasir Mondol and his wife Sumia Mondol on the day of incident based on the complaint lodged by the victim’s mother Firoza Mondol. Firoza lodged a complaint against six persons including Ansar and his wife, but the rest four persons are still at large.
A senior police officer said they have initiated a murder case against the accused persons and two arrested persons are now in jail custody.
