Tornado wreaks havoc in Burdwan East Sabhadhipati’s village

BURDWAN, 14 MAY: A two-minute tornado ravaged the village of Burdwan East Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati last evening and the following hail and rain washed away the crops which were harvested due to the forecast of cyclone Asani earlier this week.

At around 7:40 pm yesterday, villages like Shyamadanga, Bishnei, Bariseli, Kapsit and Lodhna in Khandaghosh block experienced a terrible whirlwind from the South Western part where an irrigation canal has crossed across. The residents of Shyamadanga – Munshi Rafiullah, Sukho Ghosh complained: “Before we could estimate about the sudden strong wind it swept away everything leaving us is utter surprise and jeopardy.”

They narrated that uncountable large trees and their branches fell on the road, electric poles were uprooted and cables flung in the air in just two minutes.” A poultry having 2,000 birds at neighbouring Bishnei vanished in the blue in a while leaving its owner Arzoo Sheikh helpless.

Villages went out of power circuit, as a result and the officials failed to mention about resumption of supply today.

Shyamadanga is the native place of Shampa Dhara, the Sabhadhipati of Burdwan East Zilla Parishad. She said: “I’ve heard about the devastation from my kin in the village. We’ve talked to the senior officials today about restoration of normalcy in the villages at the earliest.”
