800 students, researchers inoculated by Kalyani varsity

KRISHNAGAR, 1 OCT: Kalyani university today arranged a free Covid-19 vaccination camp for students and researchers as the higher education and family welfare departments have stressed that the drive among students must be completed before Puja vacation starts.

Prof. Manas Kumar Sanyal, Vice-chancellor of KU said, “We have inoculated around 800 students and researchers today and more such camps will be arranged in future to cover all the students, teachers and non-teaching staff. We will even arrange a second dose of the jab.”

Registrar Debangshu Roy had already issued a notice mentioning that the university would arrange a free vaccination camp for students and researchers on 1 October.

“We have contacts with the students and research workers everyday as the university is conducting online classes of various departments. During the classes, they were already informed about the inoculation drive,” said Prof Sujay Kumar Mondol, general secretary of WEBCUPA, Kalyani unit.

Recently in a meeting with higher education institutions, the state government has set a deadline of 8 October to complete vaccination of all students, teachers and non-teaching staff at higher education institutions.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced that the government was keen to reopen educational institutes.

“Vaccination drive for the students is indicative that our university will reopen after Puja vacation and we will again go to the university for offline studies,” said Shampa Paul, a student from Badkulla.
