MIDNAPORE, 8 MARCH: Two jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) CoBRA were found dead under mysterious circumstances in the unit of Armourer Shop at Salboni in West Midnapore today.
According to the reports of 232 (M) battalion, the duo have perhaps committed suicide by shooting themselves with service rifles in the Unit Armourer shop at around 2 am today.
The deceased have been identified as HC/Armr Rajeev Kumar (37) and Rabari Sajelben Kanjhibai (27). Rajeev, a resident of Jhakahi Chak Beldunha under Mahauli police station area in Saint Kabirnagar of UP, joined the service in 2003 while Rabari, a resident of Karoli under Kalol police station area in Gandhinagar of Gujrat, joined the service in 2014.
The Commandant of the unit in his report said prima-facie appears to be a case of suicide by shooting themselves with service rifles. Rajeev was deployed in the charge of Armourer shop while Rabari was given a duty of night guard. “But when Rabari did not come for duty, other jawans started searching operation for her and they finally found her dead along with Rajeev in the Armourer shop unit”, the report read.
Sources placed in the battalion said the couple was married to different individuals and they recently returned from leave. No grievance related to their service was ever reported. They also reported at the quarantine center on 26 February and they finally reported at the unit on 6 March.
According to the jawans, the couple, both were married, advanced into an extramarital affair and this may be the reason behind the suicide bid.
Bodies were sent to the Midnapore Medical College and Hospital for autopsy, local police said.
