Mr Banerjee stated that after becoming the CM Dr Manik Saha promised to curb lawlessness in Tripura.

“Sadly, the reality of gruesome political violence in the state continues, as it was during Biplab Deb,’s’ rule. BJP’s characteristic of violence and nefarious agendas for Tripura cannot change,” he added.

Meanwhile six member delegation of Trinamul MPs including Saugata Roy, Jawhar Sircar, Dr Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Luzhinio Falerio, Pratima Mondal and Nusrat Jehan Ruhi all met the Chief Election Commissioner today.

In a memorandum stating in Tripura there is a gross violation of Representative of People’s Act in Tripura where the Oppositions are attacked and beaten mercilessly.

The delegation headed by Saugata Roy had a long meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar, during which the attack by ‘BJP goons’ on the 70 families who joined TMC workers on the night of June 15 in the Surma assembly constituency, was discussed.

Giving details about the meeting, Roy said that Chief Election Commissioner was ‘very positive’ and added he had already spoken with the Chief Electoral Officer regarding this.

Trinamul Congress state general secretary and party’s spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said, “Actually BJP is afraid of Trinamul Congress. Last year after two months, Trinamul Congress got 20 percent vote in Tripura in municipal election. After our party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee came to Tripura and held a massive road show. BJP became afraid that their mass base was dwindling and attacked the couples who recently joined Trinamul Congress from BJP.”

Tripura is all set to hold by-elections for four assembly seats – Agartala, Town Bardowali, Surma, and Jubarajnagar – on June 23. The counting of votes will take place on June 26. The bypolls are necessitated due to the death of CPI(M) MLA Ramendra Chandra Debnath (Jubarajnagar) and the resignations of Roy Barman (Agartala) and Asish Saha (Town Bardowali). Besides, the Surma seat became vacant after BJP legislator Asish Das was disqualified by the assembly speaker.
