At the inaugural session of BGBS here, Mr Adani said the group’s investments will span world-class port infrastructure, state of the art, data centres and undersea cables that will connect them across the oceans, centres of excellence in digital innovation, warehouses and logistics parks.

“Over the next decade, we expect our total investment in Bengal to exceed Rs 10,000 crore. Thereafter, as we continue to expand here, we will bring into Bengal our world-class expertise across the green energy value chain,” Mr Adani said at the sixth edition of BGBS.

Speaking at the Summit, he said that the Adani group plans to commit to Bengal its expertise in infrastructure, tech, speed of execution and experience to recalibrate Bengal’s infrastructure.

Mr Adani said that it is his love for rivers and oceans that led his company to start its journey in infrastructure with a port on the shores of the Arabian Sea.

He said Bengal has always inspired him as the state has given the country the most freedom fighters and no other state represents women empowerment better than Bengal. “I do not need to look beyond Bengal for inspiration.”

He said the investment will help generate 25,000 direct and indirect employments.

“What I am committing to bring is the promise that I will live up to the expectations of the people of Bengal,” Mr Adani said.

Adani Port is the highest bidder for the Tajpur deep sea port but the state is yet to announce the company as the L1 bidder.

The Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who took to the podium right after Mr Adani, however, pronounced clearly that the Tajpur port will be a game changer for Bengal and the state government has already made everything ready for the project.

It may be recalled that the leader of opposition in state Suvendu Adhikari had recently said that the Tajpur Port project will never materialise since there is no available land by the sea. He said a minimum of 5000 acres of land is needed for the project. “Where is the land for the freight corridor of the port or for that matter where will the national highways go? If the government has the guts then it should begin by purchasing the land, he said.
