Ranjit Sur, state secretary of APDR said, “The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police has arrested Jayita from Jaguli in Nadia in connection with a framed case on Tuesday. The police arrested her on the fake charges of circulating Maoist leaflets at Maidan area in Kolkata. The police also brought sedition charges against her. Accordingly, the court based on the police report declined granting bail to her.”

Mr Sur also alleged that alike the Central government, the state government is also unleashing oppression on the people who often protest against unlawful activities and misrule. “Starting from Anish killing to the arrest of Jayita, there is conspiracy. Not only Jayita, police have arrested two youths from Naoda in Murshidabad. In the last December, police arrested four youths from the remote area of Jaynagar under Bakultala police station limits on the suspicion of being involved in Maoist activities. We want immediate unconditional release of the arrested youths and people,” Mr Sur said.

According to the police, Jayita was arrested from Jaguli More in Nadia when she was waiting for a Toto at around 11 am on Tuesday. She was to visit a doctor’s chamber. But, police reached there and asked her to go with them. They then accompanied her to a place where she had to wait until 8 pm when a STF team reached there and arrested her. She was then taken to SSKM hospital for medical examination at around 12.15 am.
