Arvind Kejriwal meets Mamata Banerjee in Delhi

KOLKATA, 29 APRIL: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee during her two day visit to Delhi met Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi chief minister and AAP supremo at the official residence of TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, her nephew, and the meeting lasted for about half an hour.

Miss Banerjee is in Delhi to attend the meeting of the Prime Minister and other chief ministers with Supreme Court and other High Court judges.

During the meeting, Mamata congratulated Kejriwal on his party’s resounding victory in the Punjab assembly elections, they said.

It was the first meeting of the two leaders since the Trinamul Congress (TMC) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) contested the recent assembly polls in Goa, fielding candidates against each other.

It is learnt that Miss Banerjee may raise various issues to the Prime Minister including the state owes to Centre about Rs 98,000 crore may request the Prime Minister to cut down fuel prices  as it is escalating the prices of essential commodities. She may ask for filling up the vacancies of High Court judges.

But the most important development in the evening that Mr Arvind Kejriwal went to the residence Mamata Banerjee’s nephew to meet her.

After winning Punjab, AAP started its activities in West Bengal and carried out some processions in Kolkata and some districts in West Bengal against Trinamul Congress.

So political analysts feel that Mr Kejriwal is more willing to restore a friendly relation with the Trinamul Congress and it is learnt that there is discussion on formation of third front to tackle BJP on 2024. Moreover, Presidential election is on the anvil and discussion among the non-BJP parties is required.
