KRISHNAGAR, 4 DEC: Kotwali police under Krishnagar Police District in Nadia arrested an Assam Rifles jawan on Tuesday night for allegedly abusing and assaulting on-duty police personnel in an intoxicated state.
The accused, identified as Sujit Kumar Barman from Assam, had come to his in-laws’ residence at Bhatajangle under Kotwali police station limits to attend a wedding ceremony. Police said that during the event he allegedly became violent under the influence of alcohol, hurling expletives at police personnel and physically attacking them when they intervened.
He was detained and brought to Kotwali police station, where he allegedly assaulted a duty officer as well. As his aggressive behaviour continued inside the station, police formally arrested him.
Barman was produced before the Krishnagar District Court on today. Further legal proceedings are underway.
