After Babul Supriya was stripped off his ministry, on 31 July, Babul Supriya declared that he would leave politics and will go back to his old world of music.

Mr Supriya was a two -time MP from Asansol in BJP ticket. He was made minister of state in 2014 and 2019 he was also made MoS of forest and environment.

But in 2021 Assembly poll he was asked by the BJP high command to contest from Tollygunge Assembly constituency and lost to the sitting Trinamul MLA and minister Aroop Biswas.
