The Omicron suspect was a child of a migrant worker who had a history of marathon journey from Abu Dhabi of United Arab and Emirates to Bengal via Hyderabad. Ultimately, the kid was admitted to Malda Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday.

Yesterday, the state health department informed that the kid tested positive for Omicron infection which was reportedly confirmed following the genome sequencing made from the patients’ swab sample.
Health officials here were in a hurry to trace the Omicron suspect since the chief medical officer of health (CMOH), Murshidabad, Sandip Sanyal informed reporters that the kid and his family had left Kolkata airport for their native village at Beniagram village under Farakka police station in Murshidabad district.

He also informed yesterday that the Covid suspected family could also be located at Kaliachak area of Malda district. A team of health officials ultimately succeeded to locate the migrant worker, his minor child and wife at Malda Medical College and Hospital which kept the suspected kid under medical observation.

Back-to-back tests on the child were found to be negative for Omicron infection, said health officials in Malda. The suspected patient and his parents have been released from the hospital, sources said adding the kid and his family members have been placed in home quarantine for 14 days.
Though it’s a matter of relief that Bengal has currently no case of Omicron, the health department has been put on alert to deal with any possible outbreak of the dreaded Covid virus, Omicron, said officials here today.

The formal restrictions in Covid containment zones created yesterday at Beniagram area under Farakka PS and Kaliachak area of Malda are yet to be relaxed, sources said.
