The incident took place on AIIMS Road near Simultala under Haringhata police station limits. Though, the Ranaghat MP was unhurt, but his rear section of the vehicle was slightly damaged due to the impact of the explosion.

Mr Sarkar lodged a complaint with the Haringhata police against some unidentified goons, but he raised finger at the ruling party Trinamul Congress behind the attack.

When asked, Mr Sarkar said, “I was returning after watching ‘The Kashmir Files’. A bomb was hurled at my car on my way back near Simultala, we escaped it (bomb) narrowly. As the Centre has withdrawn my security, a few party workers were accompanying me and they were all in my car. We heard a big sound. After going a few yards, we pulled out the car to see what has happened. I preliminary thought that it was the sound of a tire burst. But, we saw it was a bomb that was hurled at my car. Later, police came after 10 minutes.”

Reacting to this, the BJP said in TMC rule, even an MP isn’t safe.

“Goons are given free hand and there is no control over them. There is no fear of law. Mamata Banerjee has destroyed the law and order completely,” tweeted Dr Sukanta Majumdar, BJP’s state president.

To protest against the attack, BJP workers led by the party’s Ranaghat MLA Partha Sarathi Mukherjee put up a road block on the National Highway in Ranaghat, but they later withdrew the blockade.
