KRISHNAGAR, 14 FEB: BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar had a narrow escape on Saturday night when a speeding truck rammed into the vehicle he was travelling in near Hela-Battala area on NH-12 in Barasat.

Mr Sarkar who had been returning home to Santipur from Kolkata airport, was unhurt but his driver received minor injuries.

Mr Sarkar alleged that it was not merely an accident, but it was attempt to kill him. “The truck was suspiciously chasing our vehicle for a while. Near Hela-Battala, the truck suddenly came close to our vehicle and my driver quickly drove extreme left and saved my life. Though, he received injuries as the truck rammed into the right side of our vehicle before trying to escape.

It was completely a Trinamul Congress conspiracy to kill me,” Mr Sarkar alleged.

Later, Barasat police arrested the truck driver who was found without driving license. The arrest was made based on the complaint lodged by BJP youth wing leader Koushik Majumdar.

Today, BJP supporters blocked NH-12 in Nadia to protest against the incident and Mr Sarkar lodged a complaint with the Santipur police claiming that it was a planned attack to kill him.

Mr Sarkar alleged, “Trinamul Congress is frustrated since he won the parliamentary polls from Ranaghat constituency with an overwhelming margin. Since then, the ruling party has been trying to harass me by various ways. They implicated me in several cases by leveling fake charges that include the murder of MLA Satyajit Biswas. But, they are unsuccessful so far. Now it appears that they are trying to kill me to stop me politically, but it failed.”

Trinamul Congress leaders, however, denied the allegations saying Mr Sarkar is trying to defame our party ahead of the assembly polls.
