HANSHKHALI, 11 APRIL: A 12-hour bandh, called by the BJP to protest against the gang rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl, was observed peacefully across the Hanshkhali block under Ranaghat sub-division in Nadia today.
Since the morning the entire region looked deserted as the people preferred to remain indoors, while shops and markets remained close to protest the heinous crime on a minor girl of the locality.

A minor girl was allegedly gangraped in a birthday party arranged for the son of a local Trinamul Congress leader on 4 April. The girl died of heavy bleeding in her house on the next day and after her death, her body was purportedly burnt in the local crematorium by the accused forcefully. The accused also cleaned the crematorium with water in hopes to destroy all evidence.
The most shocking incident happened at Shyamnagar of Gajna panchayat area under Hanshkhali police station limits in Nadia on Monday. But, the incident came to light on 10 April when ChildLine staff assured the family members following which they lodged a complaint with the police.
Rupankar Sengupta, additional SP of Ranaghat Police District said, “The police have arrested the prime accused Brojo Gayali alias Sohali under section 376 (3)/302/201/34 IPC and 6 POSCO act. He was produced before the Ranaghat ACJM court today where the magistrate on hearing pleas remanded him in police custody for 14 days.”

Mr Sengupta also said that judicial recording of statements of five witnesses including the complainant under section 164 CrPC have also been done today.
Meanwhile, a team of BJP’s Women Morcha headed by Dr Archana Majumdar, who arrived at Shyamnagar to talk with the victim’s family members, was denied to meet the parents and other family relatives of the victim.
Criticizing the Trinamul Congress rules state government, Dr Archana alleged, “Whenever police came to know we were reaching to meet the victim’s parents, they picked them up and accompanied them to the court for recording of their judicial statements. Later, they also did not allow us to meet the family members of the victim.”
She alleged that a minor was raped and murdered. Her body was burnt in the panchayat funded crematorium without burning and death certificates. While, the police didn’t register a suo-motto murder case even. This gruesome incident happened only because the accused was the son of the Trinamul Congress panchayat member.

Meanwhile, a PIL demanding CBI enquiry in Hanshkhali rape and murder case of a minor has been filed in Calcutta High Court by Advocate Anindya Sundar Das.
According to the local residents, the girl was invited to the birthday party of Brojo, son of Gajna gram panchayat member Samar Gayali. Samar Gayali is a prominent Trinamul Congress leader in the locality.
The minor’s family members claimed that the 14-year-old girl went to Brojo’s residence that night with another girl and a few others.
The family members said that individuals at Brojo’s residence alerted them that the girl had been unwell at the party. They stated they were urged to take the kid to a local doctor. The family also alleged that they were prohibited from taking the girl to a hospital or a private facility. They were also threatened that if they didn’t pay any heed to their words, their house would be set on fire.

The girl was rushed to a local quack doctor by her family members as suggested, but she could not be saved. The next day, she died.
According to the family, the girl died as a result of excessive bleeding. Her family members also said that after her daughter died on Tuesday, the Trinamul leader and his party workers forcefully burnt her body at a nearby crematorium.
The minor’s relatives said that they were appalled at the loss of their daughter. However, after receiving assurance from Child Line staff, they filed a case with Hanshkhali police station. They alleged that the girl was gang-raped. The victim’s relatives have also accused the police of misconduct. According to them, Hanshkhali Police Station head Mukunda Chakraborty refused to consider the gang rape accusation.
