CONTAI, 7 APRIL: The Central government plans to rehabilitate veteran Trinamul Congress MP Sisir Adhikari by making him the governor of an eastern state.
According to sources, the two states adjoining West Bengal in the eatern part of the country are under consideration by the central government.
Though, Mr Adhikari, himself still doesn’t know anything about the development officially, but sources said that he would not turn down the offer.
The 81-year-old patriarch of Contai’s Adhikari family followed his son Suvendu joining BJP during the Home Minister Amit Shah’s rally on 21 March. Suvendu had joined the BJP in December last year. A few days ago, Sisir Adhikari shared the dais with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Contai. Since then, his association with TMC has been severed.
With the end of the assembly elections, TMC may urge to the LS Speaker requesting to cancel his membership in the parliament.
In this situation, BJP wants to give ‘honourable rehabilitation’ to Mr Adhikari, sources said.
Considering his age, a party insider of BJP said, “He is a veteran and experienced politician. We do not want to get him engaged in regular political activities. We want to rehabilitate him ina respected post like governor in an eastern state.”
