MIDNAPORE, 26 MARCH: A 30-year-old BJP worker was found hanging from a tree near his house at Baghmari under Salboni police station limits in West Midnapore this morning, a day before the first phase of poll is scheduled to begin.
Police officials said the deceased has been identified as Lal Mohan Soren, a resident of Baghmari.
The mysterious death sparked tension in the locality, with BJP supporters hitting the streets to protest against the ‘murder’.
The BJP leaders claimed that Soren was a booth-level leader of 62 no. booth of Baghmari.
The BJP has alleged Trinamul Congress role in his death. “Soren’s feet were touching the floor, but there was a noose around his neck. It seems he was killed and then hanged. He has been murdered by the TMC goons,” said Shamit Das, a BJP candidate from Midnapore and former BJP district president.
Trinamul Congress district president, Biswanath Pandab, however, said “We don’t know anything about this incident. The BJP always try to blame our party no matter what has happened. Trinamul Congress is not related to such any incident.”
