For the last few days, some local youths who reportedly belong to the BJP have engaged in protest demonstrations in front of Kalyani AIIMS with demands that local youths be given priority in employment. They alleged the AIIMS authority is recruiting people from other districts especially from Bankura district while local youths are debarred from getting any employment in the AIIMS.
Trouble broke out when Dr Sarkar, a gynaecologist and board member of AIIMS Kalyani reached there to attend a programme. The agitators sat in front of the main gate of AIIMS and when he came out after attending a programme, the agitators gheaoed him and sat in front of his car. The BJP worker who accompanied Dr Sarkar got involved in verbal altercation with the agitators which led to a clash between them.
When asked, BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar said it was not the BJP’s stance to beat up journalists.
