KRISHNAGAR, 7 OCT: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials today quizzed the Trinamul Congress Bhatjungla anchal president Khokon Mondol and one Havinder Mahato, party’s labour wing member in Krishnagar Rail godown area, in connection with the murder of BJP worker Palash Mondol during post-poll violence in Krishnagar.
The duo was taken to the Krishnagar Circuit House where the CBI officials quizzed several hours. Later, the CBI issued a notice under section of 160 CrPC against them.
Sources said the CBI officials during investigation have found that the duo had ‘role’ in connection with the murder. As the CBI could not gather enough evidence against them, they issued the notice on the requirement for the attendance as witnesses.
On 14 June, a BJP worker, Palash Mondol was killed by over a dozen people in his house in Krishnagar.
According to the FIR, when Palash along with his wife Shefali were asleep at their house, a few miscreants gathered outside the house around 6am.
“They carried weapons like sharp dagger, pipes of tube well, iron rods and fire arms. They entered our house without anyone’s permission and out of their previous malice, they started calling my husband’s name using filthy language. Thereafter, they broke open the entrance door of our house and came inside,” said Shefali Mondol in her statement, which is a part of CBI’s FIR.
“They destroyed all the furniture and items. They dragged my husband out of the house and started beating him with iron rods, pipes of tube well and caused grievous injury to his (husband) head using the sharp dagger. Thereafter, one Kushai Das took out a firearm and shot in the head of my husband with the intention of killing him. As a result, my husband collapsed drenched in blood,” she added.
Shefali further said in her statement that Kushai Das and Pappu Mukherjee then fired twice and fled from the spot. “When I took my critically injured husband to Shaktinagar District Hospital, the doctor declared him dead,” she said.
The CBI has filed a chargesheet against 15 accused in connection with this case.
