According to the police, the victim lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Bhawanipore police station in Kolkata on Monday after undergoing medical examination at the State-run SSKM Hospital. The Krishnagunge police initiated a probe into the matter and arrested the accused officer named Kitab Singh, following the victim’s allegations against her company commander.

Yesterday, the lady constable was produced before the 5th court magistrate, Poulumi Pandit in Krishnagar Judge’s court to record her statement under 164 CrPC. Meanwhile, a committee of sexual harassment has been set up by the BSF, and the accused officer has been suspended.

A spokesperson of the South Bengal Frontier of the BSF stated, “We will take strong disciplinary action if the accused is found guilty.”

Women BSF personnel are posted at several places along the India-Bangladesh border as there is high density of population alongside the border.

This is not the first such incident involving BSF personnel. On August 22, another allegation of rape of a 23-year-old woman by BSF personnel had come to the fore under Bagda police station in North 24 Parganas district, and two BSF personnel were arrested for their alleged involvement in the crime.

The incident has once again raised concerns about the safety and security of women personnel in the security forces and highlights the need for more stringent measures to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
