KRISHNAGAR, 5 DEC: In a significant operation, the vigilant troops of Border Outpost Mahakhola, belonging to the 82 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) under the South Bengal Frontier, successfully thwarted a smuggling attempt along the India-Bangladesh border. The alert jawans acted on a tip-off, leading to the apprehension of a smuggler red-handed and the seizure of 11 kg of silver jewelry valued at ₹949,500.
The operation unfolded when, based on precise information, the BSF personnel laid a special ambush in a suspected area. At approximately 1350 hours, the jawans observed an individual approaching with luggage. Upon rapid intervention by the BSF personnel, the suspect attempted to flee. However, the vigilant jawans managed to apprehend him, and upon searching his bag, discovered 11 kg of silver jewelry.
The arrested smuggler was identified as Mafijul Biswas, son of Mohammad Ali Biswas, hailing from Hatkhola village in Nadia district. Interrogation of the suspect revealed that he had been working for Atiqur Rahman from Hatkhola village for a few days. His mission was to transport the seized silver ornaments across the border, and in return, he was promised ₹400 for the illicit delivery.
The jawans on duty not only intercepted Biswas but also located his bike approximately 500 meters away from the incident site, further disrupting the smuggling operation. The BSF’s swift and decisive action has once again demonstrated their commitment to securing the nation’s borders and preventing illegal activities.
In a statement issued by the South Bengal Frontier, BSF praised the alertness and efficiency of the jawans in carrying out the operation, emphasizing the importance of timely intelligence and proactive measures to curb smuggling activities in the border region.
The apprehended smuggler is now in custody, and further investigations are underway to unveil any potential links to larger smuggling networks operating in the region, a BSF official said.
