KRISHNAGAR, 29 SEP: The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully thwarted a gold smuggling attempt at the India-Bangladesh border near BOP-Gongra, 82 Battalion, South Bengal Frontier.

On Thursday, at around 12:35 p.m., alert jawans detected a smuggler approaching from the Bangladesh side. Startled by the jawans’ presence, the smuggler hastily flung a small packet over the border fencing and fled. The vigilant troops swiftly apprehended the packet, revealing two gold biscuits weighing 235.32 grams, valued at Rs 1393737/-. The seized contraband was promptly handed over to the Customs Office in Krishnanagar for further legal proceedings.
A K Arya, DIG and Public Relation Officer of BSF, lauded the prompt action of the jawans and reiterated BSF’s unwavering dedication to curbing smuggling along the India-Bangladesh border. Arya urged residents residing along the border to actively participate in these efforts by reporting any smuggling-related information through the Seema Saathi helpline number 14419, WhatsApp, or voice messages at 9903472227. He assured complete confidentiality for informants and pledged suitable rewards for credible information, emphasizing the crucial role the public plays in ensuring border security.
