KRISHNAGAR, 4 JAN: In a significant achievement, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel stationed at Outpost Betai, under the South Bengal Frontier, thwarted an attempt to smuggle a substantial amount of foreign currency across the international border in Nadia district, West Bengal. The incident took place on 3 January at approximately 10 pm.
BSF sources reveal that 84 Battalion jawans received intelligence about a potential smuggling operation involving foreign currency in their area of responsibility. Swift and decisive action was taken as jawans, acting on the provided information, set up an ambush at the identified location.
As the jawans maintained vigilance, they noticed suspicious activities in the vicinity. Swiftly responding to the situation, they surrounded the smugglers, prompting them to retreat hastily towards the Indian side of the border. Taking advantage of the cover provided by darkness and dense fog, the smugglers managed to evade capture.
A thorough search of the area led to the discovery of four concealed bundles. Upon inspection, these bundles were found to contain a substantial amount of foreign currency – US Dollars amounting to $166,900. The troops promptly seized the currency for further legal proceedings.
The value of the seized US Dollars in Indian currency is reported to be Rs 1,39,01,101/-. The confiscated funds have been handed over to the Chapra Customs Office for necessary legal actions.
Mr AK Arya, Public Relations Officer of BSF South Bengal Frontier, commended the vigilance and swift action of his jawans, expressing satisfaction over the successful operation. He emphasized that this success is a testament to the dedication and alertness displayed by BSF personnel in the line of duty.
Mr Arya took the opportunity to issue a stern warning, urging people not to engage in smuggling activities. He declared that the BSF would not tolerate any illegal activities, including smuggling, along the border, and those involved would face the full force of the law.
