KRISHNAGAR, 24 APRIL: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials on Sunday produced three youths whom they detained on Saturday and later arrested before the special court of the additional chief judicial magistrate (ACJM) court in Ranaghat.
After hearing pleas, the magistrate remanded them in CBI custody for 12 days, a court official said.
The CBI officials have brought charges against the three youths of destroying evidence and threatening the family of the 14-year-old girl who was allegedly gang raped at the birthday party organized for the son of a local Trinamul Congress panchayat member Samar Gayali at Hanskhali on 4 April.
The girl, who was left to bleed until death, was forcefully burnt at a local crematorium by the accused on 5 April.
The CBI lawyers pleaded before the court that after the gang rape, the three youths named Surajit Roy, Akash Garai and Dipto Gayali, all are friends of the prime accused Braja Gayali, had threatened the parents of the victim on dire consequences if they took her to a doctor and destroyed evidence after her body was forcefully cremated at an unregistered crematorium.
On Saturday, the CBI officials detained the three youths and accompanied them to the incident sites where the central agency officials reconstructed the scenes according to their revelation. They also quizzed them over night, a CBI source said.
Earlier, the Hanskhali police arrested Braja Gayali and his friend Prabhakar Poddar soon after the news of the gang rape incident came to light. Later, the Calcutta High Court ordered a CBI probe into this matter and the CBI officials arrested Ranjit Mallick, an associate of Braja.
