KRISHNAGAR, 7 OCT: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two persons including a minor, wanted for killing a BJP worker during post-poll violence in Krishnagar, Nadia from Krishnagar Rail godown.
The duo named Tuphan Das (14), son of Kushai Das and Rajendra Sharma, were produced before the respective courts by the CBI officials today.
Tuphan was produced before the juvenile court where the magistrate on hearing pleas sent him in the Home for 14 days for his safety and security while Rajendra Sharma was produced before the chief judicial magistrate court in the District Judge’s court where the magistrate on hearing pleas remanded him in CBI custody for four days, said the defence lawyer adding that the CBI had, however, appealed for his five day’s custody.
With this arrest, the CBI has arrested a total of three persons in connection with the brutal murder. A few days ago, the CBI had arrested one Baloram Das from Pune. Earlier, the Kotwali police had arrested 12 persons in connection with the murder.
On 14 June, a BJP worker, Palash Mondol was killed by over a dozen people in his house in Krishnagar.
According to the FIR, when Palash along with his wife Shefali were asleep at their house, a few miscreants gathered outside the house around 6am.
“They carried weapons like sharp dagger, pipes of tube well, iron rods and fire arms. They entered our house without anyone’s permission and out of their previous malice, they started calling my husband’s name using filthy language. Thereafter, they broke open the entrance door of our house and came inside,” said Shefali Mondol in her statement, which is a part of CBI’s FIR.
“They destroyed all the furniture and items. They dragged my husband out of the house and started beating him with iron rods, pipes of tube well and caused grievous injury to his (husband) head using the sharp dagger. Thereafter, one Kushai Das took out a firearm and shot in the head of my husband with the intention of killing him. As a result, my husband collapsed drenched in blood,” she added.
Shefali further said in her statement that Kushai Das and Pappu Mukherjee then fired twice and fled from the spot. “When I took my critically injured husband to Shaktinagar District Hospital, the doctor declared him dead,” she said.
The CBI has filed a chargesheet against 15 accused in connection with this case. During the investigation, the CBI learnt that accused Baloram Das, Rajendra Sharma and Tuphan Das, son of Kushai were also allegedly involved in the killing of Palash Mondol. After a manhunt, Baloram was located in Pune and a team of CBI arrested him there.
On the order of Calcutta High Court, the CBI is investigating post-poll violence cases in West Bengal. Over 41 FIRs have been filed by CBI, which include murder, rape and rioting cases.
