KRISHNAGAR, 30 APRIL: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials today produced Samarendra Gayali, father of the prime accused Braja alias Sohail in Hanskhali rape and murder case and his friend Piyush Bhakta, a Trinamul Congress leader before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) court in Ranaghat where the magistrate after hearing pleas remanded them in CBI custody for three days.
The central investigating agency officials arrested Samarendra, a Trinamul Congress Gajna panchayat member and his friend Piyush following interrogation at their camp office in Krishnagar last night. They were called for a second round interrogation on Friday. Samarendra and his wife were earlier quizzed by the CBI officials a few days ago but they were let off.
Apurba Biswas, defence lawyer for Samarendra Gayali said the CBI officials have brought charges of intimidation, destruction of evidence and conspiracy against his client.
With the arrest of Samarendra Gayali and Piyush Bhakta, the CBI has arrested a total of six persons while the Hanskhali police arrested two accused in connection with the gruesome rape and murder case.
A 14-year-old girl, who was invited at the birthday party of Braja Gayali, son of the Trinamul Congress panchayat member Samarendra Gayali, was allegedly gang-raped there on 4 April. On that night, the girl was rescued to her house by some local residents when she felt unwell on her way to her house. The girl was, however, left to bleed until death in her house as the accused had threatened her parents with dire consequences. Later, the girl was burnt at the local unauthorised crematorium allegedly by the accused apparently to destroy evidence of the crime committed by Sohail and his friends. The Trinamul leader and his aides allegedly used their political clout to take away the body at gunpoint.
