KRISHNAGAR, 8 SEP: The Centre for Studies of Bengali Diaspora University of Kalyani is going to organize a yearlong Diaspora Colloquium 2022-2023. On Wednesday, the inauguration of the Diaspora Colloquium took place at Vidyasagar Sabhagriha of the University. The Colloquium was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Manas Kumar Sanyal and Mr. Eshor Raj Poudel, the Consul General of Nepal to Kolkata.

While addressing at the inaugural ceremony, Prof Sanyal spoke about the importance of Diaspora Studies in the light of interdisciplinary academic endeavours.

The Consul General, in his elucidation of the concept of Diaspora, emphasized on the cultural affinity of India and Nepal.

Prof. Sumit Mukerji, Director of Centre for Studies on Bengali Diaspora, gave an overview of the forthcoming year-long monthly lecture programme of the international Colloquium. Prof. Ananda Mitra of Wake Forest University, US delivered his inspiring address alluding to indigenous culture of the Diaspora communities spread across the world.

Prof. Bashabi Fraser, CBE of Napier University Edinburgh delivered her informative lecture on Tagoreana in virtual mode. The audience was comprised of teachers, researchers, students of different disciplines of the University and other colleges.
