Basir Mollah, a close aide of the TMC MLA Rukbanur Rahman, was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Krishnagar where the magistrate on hearing pleas remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days.

According to the police, Basir had promised a Gr D job in the panchayat to one Mithun Mollah in Chapra and collected Rs 3 lakh from him in 2018. But, he could not provide a job to him even after two years. Mithun then claimed his money asking him to refund but Basir had given only Rs 1.5 lakh to Mithun.

Later, when Mithun again started claiming the rest of the money he had given to him, Basir refused to pay and threatened him with dire consequences. Mithun then lodged a complaint with Chapra police and based on his complaint Chapra police arrested Basir late last night from his hideout.

When asked, Rukbanur Rahman said, “I am an MLA. Many people come to my office every day. I know most of the people in my area. But, I don’t know who had cheated and to whom. If anyone collects money on false promises of a job, then he will face consequences and police will take action against him.”
