NANDIGRAM, 30 MARCH: Hours before the high-voltage election campaign for the second phase polls was set to end at 5 pm, Nandigram once again turned violent when a group of Trinamul Congress workers attacked the rally of CPI-M candidate Minakshi Mukherjee in Nandigram today.
The veteran CPI-M leader Biman Bose was then leading the rally in favour of his party candidate and workers of both the parties involved in a clash leading to the injuries of five CPI-M workers.
Minakshi alleged that her car was also vandalized and the police have not taken any action against the attackers even after repeated complaints lodged with them.
She said it was not the first time she was attacked during the campaign in Nandigram.
“Trinamul is wary because they know they will lose in Nandigram. All those who attacked us had Trinamul caps on,” Minakshi, who escaped unhurt, said.
Trinamul’s Tamluk candidate and district president for the party Soumen Mahapatra, however, denied his party’s involvement. “We are in no way involved in the attacks,” he said.
The incident took place at noon when the rally reached Bhuta More.
Earlier in the day, the BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari’s convoy was also attacked at Adhastala by the TMC workers.
