NEW DELHI, 9 MARCH: The fourth test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia got underway at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Thursday. The match was witnessed by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albanese, who were both present at the stadium to celebrate the 75 years of friendship between the two nations.
After a warm welcome by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials, the two leaders witnessed a performance by singer Ms Falguni Shah, followed by the presentation of the Test Caps to the captains of the respective teams. The Prime Ministers then took a guard of honour in a golf cart before the large crowd in the stadium.
Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. Captain Steve Smith announced the decision to the cheers of the Australian fans in the stands. India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, expressed his team’s readiness to take on the challenge and promised to give their best performance.
The match is crucial for both teams as they are tied at 1-1 in the four-match Test series. India won the first Test in Adelaide, while Australia won the second Test in Melbourne. The third Test in Sydney ended in a draw.
In his post-match tweet, the Australian Prime Minister praised the friendly rivalry between the two nations and the cooperation between them to build a better world. He also wished both teams good luck for the remainder of the match.
The match will continue for the next four days, and both teams will be hoping to secure a victory to claim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
