BURDWAN, 27 APRIL: Despite the unrelenting extreme weather conditions, dengue cases have started showing an upwards trend in Burdwan East these days and in the last two days, the district recorded 16 dengue cases.
The Public Health Engineering department of the Burdwan East Zilla Parishad, considering the sudden dengue outbreak has issued a circular today to the 23 block administrations to arrange for mass awareness about the untimely recurrence of the disease. “Besides the recent dengue cases, we’ve accommodated awareness campaign for the other insect carrier diseases like Chikungunia, Malaria, Japanese Encephalitis and Kalaazar,” said Bagbul Islam, PHE Karmadhyaksha for the Burdwan East Zilla Parishad today. He added: “In 2021, our district had registered 78 dengue cases and it’s a matter of concern that the disease has hit back untimely this year.”
Dengue outbreak in summer though is sporadic in nature and is not endemic as is recorded during the monsoon days. The key reason behind the dengue cases in summer is found to be the storage of water in coolers, which provides conducive environment for the Ades mosquitoes – those carry the virus, to breed, incidentally.
