NEW DELHI, 27 OCT: In a recent turn of events, the ongoing investigation into the ‘cash-for-query’ scandal took an unexpected twist as BJP MP Nishikant Dubey accused TMC MP Mahua Moitra of misspelling his name as ‘Dubai’ in an official letter to Ethics Committee chairman Vinod Sonkar. Dubey, taking a jibe at Moitra, dubbed her “Dubai didi” and questioned her competence, alluding to her alleged involvement in compromising national security.
Moitra, in a letter to Sonkar, sought a delay in her appearance before the Ethics Committee, citing prior commitments related to ongoing Durga Puja celebrations in West Bengal. She also intended to cross-question Darshan Hiranandani, a key figure in the ‘cash-for-query’ allegation who had turned approver.
Dubey, irate over the misspelling, posted on social media platform X, questioning Moitra’s integrity and mental state. He expressed his disbelief at the error, emphasizing the seriousness of the charges against Moitra regarding national security and corruption.
Meanwhile, Moitra responded to the Ethics Committee’s summons, requesting additional time to prepare her defense and promising to cooperate fully with the investigation. She emphasized the need for a fair and just inquiry into the allegations against her.
The Ethics Committee, chaired by BJP MP Vinod Sonkar, comprises members from various political parties, including BJP, Congress, YSRCP, Shiv Sena, JD-U, CPI-M, and BSP. Earlier, Dubey and advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai, who initially raised the ‘cash-for-query’ allegations against Moitra, appeared before the committee to provide oral evidence.
Moitra’s misspelling of Dubey’s name has added a new layer of controversy to an already contentious case. The BJP MP questioned Moitra’s education and integrity, raising concerns about potential breaches of national security.
The investigation continues to unfold, with both parties gearing up for what promises to be a fierce legal battle in the coming weeks. As the Ethics Committee prepares for further proceedings, the spotlight remains on Moitra and Dubey, with the nation watching closely as the scandal unfolds.
Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
