KOLKATA, 26 MAY: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee is always a fan favourite of the younger generation, and the CM, too, has always showered her affection towards the youngsters. On Thursday, an eight-year-old girl from Malda was greeted by the chief minister at her residence.
Sayantika Das, a Class II student, had earlier planned a cycle ride from her hometown in Malda to CM Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat to thank her for the array of schemes launched by her government for the students of Bengal.

However, when the chief minister came to know about the eight-year-old’s 350km ride, she promptly asked her not to exert herself, and instead told her to catch a train till Sealdah Station, and then begin her journey towards the CM’s residence.
The little girl met the chief minister on Thursday afternoon, and offered her ‘aamsatwa’ (traditional mango candy), a signature item of the Malda district, as a gift for the chief minister.
Sayantika claimed that she wanted to thank the chief minister for introducing Kanyashree (a scheme of financial aid to girl students), Shobuj Sathi (a scheme that gives students free bicycle), scholarship schemes Aikyashree and Shikshashree, Taruner Swapno (a scheme of financial aid to students for smartphones) and the Students’ credit cards.
