KRISHNAGAR, 20 FEB: A team of Cyber Crime Police Station of Krishnagar Police District arrested a 35-year-old youth for his alleged involvement in fraudulent ATM transactions at Tehatta in Nadia through cloned debit and credit cards.
The youth identified as Sandip Kumar of Barsi under Bhawanikheri police station limits in Bivani district of Haryana was arrested red handed when he was trying to withdraw cash from a SBI ATM counter at Tehatta.
The police have seized a cell phone and five ATM cards from him while his associate managed to flee from the site with their motorbike, said a police officer.
According to the Cyber Crime officers, the youth has been booked under case number 144/2020. He was produced before the chief judicial magistrate court in Krishnagar where the magistrate on hearing pleas remanded him police custody for five days. He will be produced again before the court on 21 February.
Mr Rajesh Gupta, IC, Cyber Crime Police Station in Krishnagar said the youth, a resident of Haryana came here to commit crime to avoid the police network of local police stations. The youth along with his associate used to travel one place to another place every day. They never stayed in any one place for hours after committing crime. They even travel one state to another and used to choose the ATM counters where there was no security person. They also used to target the ATMs where CCTV cameras were not functioning properly.
“We received complaints from three persons in 2019 and 2020. Since then, we had been trying to nab the fraudulents. A few days ago, acting on a tip-off, we reached the site and caught him re-handed,” said Mr Gupta.
