KRISHNAGAR, 14 MAR: A 37-year-old man has been arrested by Krishnagar Cyber Crime police on Monday night for sharing porn videos and photos to a WhatsApp group created for class VI-A girl students of Bhatjungla Kalipur High School in Nadia during Covid situation when the school authorities were engaged to continue studies through online mode.
The man identified as Aslam Sheikh of Jhitkipota under Kotwali police station limits will be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Krishnagar tomorrow.
R K Gupta, Inspector of Krishnagar Cyber Crime Police Station said the accused man who is basically a mason by profession resides in Chennai. After knowing his details, we laid a trap and according he has been arrested from the Jhitkipota area tonight.
Mr Gupta said the man posted various porn videos and photos in the students’ group created for online classes by the teachers of Bhatjungla Kalipur High School.
“The headmaster of the school, Sajit Sarkar, had lodged a complaint with us on 26 January. Since then, we have been trying to track him. We took help from WhatsApp authorities and they finally sent his location in detail and the history of the cell phone he used,” Mr Gupta said.
He also said that the accused man had posted the vulgar contents in the WhatsApp group where his daughter is also a student of the school.
According to local residents, when porn videos were found in the students’ group of the school, the concerned teacher tried to remove the vulgar contents soon before the students joined the group. But, when he realized that it would not be possible to hide the contents, he removed all students from the group. Some parents, however, watched the videos and they were very much shocked. They rushed to the school and gheraoed the headmaster.
The headmaster then lodged a complaint with the Krishnagar Cyber Crime Police Station and urged to nab the culprit, a police officer said.
A senior police officer said the accused has been charged under sections – 292, 354 and 500 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 67 IT Act.
