KOLKATA, 8 JUNE: Fire broke out today at Trinamul’s Kamarhati MLA, Madan Mitra’s Bhwanipore residence. Eight fire tenders were pressed into service and flame was completely doused after two hours. Fire service men said that fire broke out from air purifier in the room.
Mr Mitra later told the media that this is his ancestral house which is almost 150 year old.
He said the fire broke out in a room at ground floor where his grandson used to stay. This is the only room in his house which has a single entrance but other rooms have many entrances.
He said his grandson went upstairs to meet him when the fire broke out. He and his family members came out on streets as the black smoke engulfed the house.
He said,” my house is in the congested area. My neighbours too panic stricken came out from their houses.”
“I came from Kamarhati as I had meeting with.local Trinamul leaders. I was reading and listening to music till 2 am before I went to sleep,” Mr Mitra said.
But after a while, Mr Mitra felt sick and was short of breathlessness and oxygen was administered to him while he was sitting outside the house.
