It happened in the Kotwali police station in Krishnagar this morning when the investigation officer asked the prime accused Khokon Sheikh to replace his suit as it was blood-stained. He also said that his garments would be seized for evidence.

Khokon, who had been absconding soon after the murder of the fire services officer in the wee hours on Thursday was arrested by the Kotwali police from his hide out at around 1 am on Thursday night.

This morning, the investigation officer called Arka Bose, brother of the deceased fire services officer, Tuhin Bose in the police station for putting his signatures on the necessary documents. Accordingly when he reached the police station, the IO asked him to bring a suit for the prime accused. “When I reached the Kotwali police station, the investigation officer asked me to buy a suit for Khokon Sheikh who has killed my brother. Primarily, I was shocked, but I later bought a suit for him. I was stunned when I saw that Khokon was wearing the suit and he was smiling on looking at me,” said Arka.

Later, Khokon was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Krishnagar District Judge court where the magistrate on hearing pleas remanded him in police custody for four days.

A 39-year-old Fire and Emergency Services officer was hacked to death by a gang of miscreants during the immersion of Kali idols at Nuri Para under Kotwali police station limits in Krishnagar in the wee hours on Thursday.

Police said the deceased named Tuhin Bose (39), a resident of Nederpara was taken to the Shaktinagar district hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Tuhin was posted in Ranaghat Fire Station office as an Officer-in-Charge.

As the tension gripped the locality soon after the incident spread, the Kotwali police reached the spot and detained two women, relatives of one of the prime accused. Police also detained two friends of the deceased for interrogation.

When asked, Ishani Paul, Superintendent of Police, Krishnagar Police District said, “The reason behind the incident has not been ascertained yet, but once we arrest the accused, it will come out. We hope, we will be able to arrest the culprits soon.”

Meanwhile, different views are coming out about the incident from different sources but police officials said, “We are examining all views to ascertain the reason behind the gruesome murder.”

According to the police sources, the deceased and his two friends were involved in a quarrel with the attackers when one of them urinated on the wall of one of their house. It was temporarily resolved at around 11 pm. But after three hours, when the Kali idol of Alingan was stranded at the by lane near Chowrastha, the attackers appeared and attacked the deceased and others. As the attackers were brandishing sharp edge weapons like Ramda (locally called), the friends of the deceased fled the scene soon. But, Tuhin could not run away quickly. He received deep injuries at one of his thighs. He fell on the ground and the miscreants fled the scene soon. He was reportedly laid on the ground for about 45 minutes and he suffered profuse bleeding resulting to his death.

Another source said Tuhin was mistargeted. The attackers came to kill his one of his friends but during chaos he was mistakenly hacked by the sharp edge weapon.
