KRISHNAGAR, 30 JULY: In a landmark judgment, a Fast Track court in Ranaghat has sentenced four individuals to life imprisonment for the murder of Raja Bhowmick, a local businessman from Taherpur. The verdict was delivered by Fast Track Judge Mr Mandeep Dasgupta after a thorough trial, today.
The case dates back to 8 December, 2023, when a group of miscreants attacked Raja Bhowmick’s house and shot him multiple times in front of his wife. The Taherpur police swiftly initiated an investigation, which led to the arrest of Sourav Majumdar from the Natun Para area. Majumdar’s interrogation revealed the involvement of Rashmoni Biswas, the mastermind behind the attack, who was subsequently arrested in Burdwan.
Further interrogations with Rashmoni Biswas identified two more accomplices, Riday Mondol and Debabrata Biswas. Riday Mondol was apprehended in Navi Mumbai, while Debabrata Biswas was captured in Rajasthan.
Superintendent of Police, Ranaghat Police District, Mr. Sunny Raj Kumar, praised the timely submission of the chargesheet and highlighted the swift proceedings that concluded the trial within a record three months. “The efficient supervision by the Ranaghat Police District ensured a prompt trial, resulting in life imprisonment for all the accused,” said SP Kumar.
The prosecution presented a total of 31 witnesses, whose testimonies were instrumental in securing the convictions. The verdict marks a significant victory for the local law enforcement and the judiciary, emphasizing the effectiveness of expedited legal processes in delivering justice.
