Mr K Amarnath, head of the SIT team and SP, Krishnagar police district said the evidence collected from the crime scene would be sent to the FSL for examination. He however said, “According to the opinion of the FSL team, the burning for which the victim was charred occurred at the crime site inside the puja pandal where her body was retrieved.”

Meanwhile, the doctor who conducted the postmortem in the JNM hospital in Kalyani yesterday had said that the burning was antemortem in nature which means the burning happened just before the victim died.

Mr Amarnath said a bottle with bluish coloured liquid was recovered from the site and those who collected the evidence suggested that the liquid was kerosene.

He, however, couldn’t divulge whether it was homicidal or suicidal. “It is too early to comment about the death. We can only ascertain the reason behind the death following the postmortem and forensic test reports.”

Mr Amarnath also said, “We are also investigating on the cell phone calls and messages of the victim and the suspected persons. We are also collecting data of the geo-location of the suspected persons.”

He assured that within two-three days after getting post-mortem and forensic reports, it would be possible to divulge the reason behind the death of the 18-year-old girl.

Yesterday, the state government has formed a Special Investigation Team(SIT) headed by SP, Krishnagar PD Mr K Amarnath to probe the alleged rape and murder case of a teenaged girl in Krishnagar.

The charred body of a teenage girl was found near the Superintendent of Police office in Krishnagaron the day of Lakshmi puja, sparking protests and political outcry. The girl, whose body showed signs of severe burns on her face, chest, and other parts, was discovered lying on the road inside a Durga Puja pandal at Ramkrishnapara in Krishnagar.

The victim’s family shared that the girl had left her house around 7:30 PM the previous evening after being invited by her fiancé, Rahul Bose, to have pizza at a local shop. However, she never returned.

The family suspects the girl was gangraped before being killed, and her attackers attempted to destroy evidence by burning her body.

Leaders from the BJP, CPM, and Congress demanded immediate justice, accusing the police of inaction. Agitators chanted slogans like “We Want Justice,” calling for the swift arrest of all culprits involved in the heinous crime.

The BJP’s Nadia North District president Arjun Biswas alleged that police are trying to show the incident as a mere suicide case, but we believe it was a planned rape and murder case. “Tomorrow, our leader Subhendu Adhikari will meet the family members of the victim and then we will start agitation and hunger strike until the victim will get justice.

Meanwhile, the Trinamul Congress MP, Mahua Moitra paid a visit at the victim’s house and talked with the bereaved family members.
