KOLKATA, 16 OCT: Trinamul Congress Rajya Sabha MP and national spokesperson Derek O’Brien today lashed out at the BJP in Goa for tearing off the placards, posters and Trinamul party flags prior to the visit of Union Home minister Amit Shah in Goa.
Trinamul MP said that their presence in Goa has unnerved Modi-Shah. This is the reason the BJP Goa is tearing off Trinamul’s posters, flags, hoardings and putting up BJP’S flags, hoardings and posters. This clearly indicates that they are afraid of Trinamul Congress. But by tearing our posters you cannot stop us from winning the goal. We will fight alone in 2022 election in Goa,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Tearing off our hoardings and posters and replace it with your master Amit Shahji won’t make any difference. People of Goa will not forget their sufferings in last four years,” Mr O’Brien stated.
He said that people of Goa are frustrated both with Congress and BJP. They sincerely want a change. They have seen Congress over 50 years and BJP for past two terms. So they want a change. They want to give Trinamul Congress a chance. They have seen Mamata Banerjee’s development in West Bengal, her schemes for the girl child, women, unemployed youths.
Meanwhile, former Congress chief minister from Goa, Luizinho Falerio, former AICC general secretary and seven times MLAs from Navelim formally joined Trinamul Congress on 29 September..
He along with nine others, most of them are former MLAs, Sarpanch general secretaries or secretaries of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee which includes advocates, Sahitya Academy winner author, social activists joined Trinamul Congress.
Later three national level footballers join Trinamul Congress. The former CM from Goa and nine others met Mamata Banerjee at Nabanna before joining Trinamul Congress officially.
The chief minister Mamata Banerjee stated, “It’s a matter of great pride for me to welcome former Goa, chief minister, seven times MLA and a great Goan leader Luizinho Falerio to the Trinamul Congress family. She said, “Together we will stand up for every Goan, fight divisive forces and work towards ushering in a new dawn for Goa.”
She also said along with them, Sahitya Akademi Award winner and famous poet Shivdas Sonu Naik, South Goa Advocates Association president Antonio Monteiro Clovis Da Costa and Rajendra Shivaji Kakodar are also joining Trinamul Congress. I welcome them to my party.”
Mr Saugata Roy welcoming the former CM and his compatriots for joining Trinamul Congress and said it’s a milestone in the history of Trinamul Congress as it will help Trinamul Congress to spread its unit in the Western part of India.
Mr Luizinho Falerio said that his dream is to unify Congress family which is at present fragmented, into Trinamul, YSR Congress and Sharad Pawar’s NCP.
He said, “I lived as a Congress man for 40 years and had same ideology and my main aim is to consolidate and reunification of Congress to fight unitedly against the divisive forces at the Centre and at Goa who are trying to destroy of culture, heritage, democracy and freedom of expression.”
He said both the country and Goa at the point of economic meltdown and 65 percent of the country’s population is jobless and the highest unemployment reached in last 45 years only during seven years of BJP government at the Centre.
Mr Falerio said, “My mission to join Trinamul Congress is to fight against the BJP who has brought the culture of violence, hatred and intolerance in India.”
He said Goa is like the jewel on the crown of India and after BJP government came to power, they are destroying the culture, heritage and natural resources of Goa. He said under BJP government, illegal mining is rampant in Goa.
Mr Falerio said, “I started my career as an activist and painstakingly preserved the cultural heritage. My twin movements are to achieve statehood for Goa and local language should be used as a mother tongue.”
He said as AICC general secretary, he helped Congress to gain power in North Eastern states like Manipur, Mizoram and Meghalaya.
He said that he would request chief minister Mamata Banerjee to visit Goa and support Goans their culture and heritage that are already on the process of destruction.
He said Mamata Banerjee is a street fighter and a fighter per excellence, has indomitable spirit and unparallel courage.
Asked if the time is too short, Trinamul Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee said, “We will fight alone and give adequate backup to Goa.”
“Our fight is against the BJP not anyone else. We have defeated BJP for the last seven years. Congress has been defeated by BJP in the last seven years,” said Mr Banerjee.
“We will begin our campaign in Goa very soon if Congress doesn’t work, don’t hit the streets and only be in the comfort of their homes then we can’t be expected to be sitting ducks. We want to defeat BJP”
In Goa, TMC is going to fight the upcoming Election all by itself that rests to all speculations.
