MIDNAPORE, 26 SEP: A training camp focusing on groundwater health was successfully conducted at Raja Narendralal Khan Mahila Mahavidyalaya on Tuesday. The event took place at the Vidhan Chandra Roy Auditorium Hall within the college premises and was hosted by the Central Ground Water Board, Eastern Sector, Kolkata.
The inauguration of this enlightening program was carried out by Ms. Jayashree Laha, principal of the college, setting the stage for a day of valuable insights and discussions. The keynote speaker for the occasion was Dr. Anadi Gayen, Field Director of the Central Groundwater Board, East Zone, Kolkata.
The primary aim of this educational event was to raise awareness among students and teachers regarding critical aspects of groundwater resources in the West Midnapore district. This included understanding the quantity, distribution, and quality of groundwater, recognizing its significant impact on the lives of local residents, and emphasizing the importance of responsible groundwater use and recharge techniques.
The training camp attracted an impressive turnout, with hundreds of students actively participating in the informative sessions. Notably, teachers and students from various esteemed institutions, including the Department of Geography and Zoology at Midnapore College, KD College, Kharagpur College, Midnapore City College, and Raja Narendralal Khan Women’s College, contributed to the event’s success by engaging actively in discussions and workshops.
Leading experts from the Central Groundwater Board, namely Dr. Kamlesh Chandra Mandal, Nasima Jamal, and Dr. Suparna Dutta, played pivotal roles in providing valuable insights into the intricacies of groundwater management. Additionally, college professors, Dr. Prabhat Kumar Sheet and Dr. Sujoy Midya, lent their expertise to the discussions, enriching the overall learning experience.
The training camp not only promoted awareness but also fostered collaboration among academic institutions and governmental bodies, contributing to the collective effort to address groundwater-related issues in the region. With a focus on responsible utilization and preservation of this vital resource, the event left a lasting impact on all those who participated.
