The CBI officials arrested Mallick on his way to surrender before the Ranaghat court yesterday and they brought him to their camp office at PWD, Inspection Bunglow in Krishnagar where he was interrogated in front of other accused.

Earlier, the Hanskhali police arrested the prime accused Brojo alias Sohail Gayali and his friend Prabhakar Poddar. With the arrest of Ranjit Mallick, the CBI has made its first arrest since it took over the charge of the case.

Before this arrest, the CBI officials brought the victim’s mother to their camp for the sake of their investigation as the victim’s mother had alleged before the CBI officials that the Hanskhali police had asked her why she took time to lodge a complaint and how much money she took from the accused.

The victim’s mother also alleged before the investigating agency officials that the concerned police station did not register her complaint about intimidation she faced by the accused on the intervening night when her daughter succumbed to the excessive bleeding.

It has been learnt that the CBI officials assured her that they would take necessary steps after considering her allegations.

The CBI officials then brought the victim’s father and cousin to the camp for interrogation. Later, the officials brought the two accused Brojo and Prabhakar to their camp and carried out a thorough interrogation.

At around 4.30 pm, the CBI officials brought Ranjit in their camp and interrogated him. After preliminary quizzing, the CBI officials took him to the Saktinagar district hospital for medical examination.

A day before his arrest, the central agency officials raided Ranjit’s house, but the house was locked from outside. Ranjit, who stays with his mother, fled from their house soon after the victim’s family lodged a complaint with the police. The CBI officials then sealed the house, but they were in search of him.

Last night, it has been learnt that the central agency officials accompanied him to his house and reconstructed the scene according to his version and video-graphed the whole scene. They brought him early this morning at their camp office in Krishnagar today.
