Allegations of Saha’s involvement in the recruitment scam had been made previously, and the state police had also been conducting an investigation into the matter. However, on Tuesday, the Calcutta High Court’s single-judge bench of Justice Rajasekhar Mantha directed the CBI to take over the investigation with immediate effect. Justice Mantha also ordered the state police to hand over all relevant documents, including the case diary, to the CBI at the earliest.

The principal allegation against Saha is that he collected cash amounting to Rs 16 crore for illegally arranging jobs in state-run schools for ineligible candidates.

The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in this matter was filed at the Calcutta High Court in 2018 by Tarunjyoti Tiwari, a BJP leader and counsel of the same court. Based on the PIL, the single-judge bench has now directed the CBI to initiate a probe against Tapas Saha.

The teachers’ recruitment scam case has been a matter of significant concern in West Bengal, with allegations of corruption and nepotism in the recruitment process. The involvement of a

TMC legislator in the case has raised further questions, and the CBI investigation will be closely watched for its outcome. Tapas Saha is yet to respond to the allegations against him in this matter.
