KRISHNAGAR, 14 AUG: In a significant and historic development, Tarannum Sultana Mir has been unanimously appointed as the new Sabhadhipati (Chairperson) of the Nadia Zilla Parishad. She becomes the first individual from the minority community to assume this prestigious position. Alongside her, Sajal Biswas, a relatively unfamiliar leader, has been named the Saha-Sabhadhipati (Vice Chairperson).
The Nadia Zilla Parishad, which consists of 52 seats, saw a landslide victory for the Trinamul Congress, winning an impressive 46 seats. This overwhelming mandate led to a vibrant internal selection process within the party to determine the Sabhadhipati. The names of the outgoing Sabhadhipati, Rikta Kundu, and the newly appointed Tarannum Sultana gained prominence during this process.
In a surprising turn of events, no opposition party members participated in the voting process, ultimately leading to Tarannum Sultana’s unanimous selection as the new Sabhadhipati. This decision was met with applause and enthusiasm from the members of the Nadia Zilla Parishad.
Sajal Biswas, an emerging leader from the Ranaghat region, secured the zilla-parishad seat from Ranaghat-I block with an overwhelming majority, winning the confidence of the constituents. Sajal Biswas is known to be a close associate of the veteran TMC leader Sankar Singh, underlining his strong connections within the party.
Following a private deliberation in the conference room of the zilla-parishad, Trinamul Congress minister Ujjal Biswas officially announced the new portfolios. Tarannum Sultana, upon taking her oath as the Sabhadhipati, expressed her commitment to working collaboratively with her fellow members for the betterment of the local populace. She emphasized the importance of unity and proclaimed her aspiration to lead as a part of “Team Nadia.”
Tarannum Sultana extended her heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee for selecting her for this pivotal role. Similarly, Sajal Biswas expressed his gratitude to both Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, attributing his rise as a leader to the inspirational efforts of Abhishek Banerjee’s Naba Jowar.
The appointment of Tarannum Sultana Mir, particularly hailing from the minority-dominated block of Kaliganj, has generated immense happiness among the local residents.
