KOLKATA, 22 JAN: In a major boost to Goa Trinamul Congress, the entire Canacona block Congress committee including former Goa Pradesh Congress Committee secretary, Mahadev Desai joined Goa TMC on Friday.
The induction was presided over by AITC National Vice-President Pavan Varma, Goa TMC Mahila president Avita Bandodkar and Goa TMC Youth president Jayesh Shetgaonkar and was held at the party office in Panaji.
Former Congress block committee vice-president Rajendra Velip and over 50 executive block committee members along with several supporters joined the party with the hope and enthusiasm to usher in a ‘New Dawn’ in Goa.
Following his induction into the party, Mahadev Desai who has also held the post of Canacona Municipal chief said, ‘‘I had never thought that I’d work with the TMC but having gauged their intent and having seen their work on ground I’m convinced that it is the only party that can defeat the BJP and work in the interest of Goenkars. TMC’s sun will rise from Canacona.’
Detailing the reason for having quit the Congress, Mahadev Desao remarked, ‘The Congress has literally vanished from Canacona.”
“I’ve worked for the Congress for over 20 years but the party failed to value me. Instead of giving me a ticket back in 2017, they gave it to a betrayer who later moved on to the BJP,” Mr Desai said.
Welcoming him, Avita Bandodkar said, ‘we’re happy to induct all these able grassroots leaders into the party who will help further strengthening our cadre.”
Hitting out at the Congress’s conspiracy in helping the BJP win, she also asserted, ‘Congress wants BJP to win and that is why they’ve given a ticket to Mr Janardhan Bhandari who has no presence on ground.’’
Goa TMC wholeheartedly welcomes the new members and is convinced of their diligence towards bringing a ‘New Dawn’ in Goa.
Earlier Trinamul Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee said, “had we want to split Congress, we could have gone to Congrrss-ruled states like Rajathan, Punjab but we have gone to BJP ruled states like Meghalaya, Goa and Tripura.”
Meanwhile, Trinamul Congress Rajya Sabha MP and party’s national spokesperson Derek O’Brien today released the list of 30 star campaigners which includes Trinamul chief Mamata Banerjee, national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, Derek O’Brien, party’s national vice presidents- Yaswant Sinha, Pawan Verma, Luziniho Falerio will campaign for Goa TMC.
Apart from them, minister, Manas Bhuinya, Manoj Tiwari, MoS, MPs- Jawhar Sircar, Sushmita Deb, Mahua Moitra, Prasun Banerjee, Kiran Kondolker, and Babul Supriyo, Trinamul Youth Congress president Sayani Ghosh, former MLA Saurabh Chakraborty, former MPs- Kriti Azad, Ashoke Tanwar, Goa TMC.leaders Ethel Lobo Yatish Naik, Nafisa Ali, Leander Paes and Avita Bandodkar will start sustained campaigning for Trinamul candidates in Goa.
