The MoU was officially signed by Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, and Mr. Peters Chen, Director of the Education Division TECC. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Mr. Baushuan Ger, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India, and Prof. Parameswar K. Iyer, Dean of Public Relations, Branding, and Ranking at IIT Guwahati. The event also saw the presence of senior representatives from both institutions, underlining the importance of this new partnership.

In his remarks, Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, emphasized the significance of the collaboration, stating, “This collaboration with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre is a pivotal moment for our institute, as it aligns with our mission to offer our students a truly global education. By integrating Mandarin language instruction into our curriculum and building strong connections with leading Taiwanese institutions, we are not only enhancing our students’ linguistic skills but also broadening their understanding of different cultures. This partnership opens new academic, industry, and research opportunities, allowing our students to explore diverse educational pathways and develop a deeper appreciation for the global landscape, especially in semiconductor industries. We are excited about the possibilities this collaboration brings and are confident that it will significantly contribute to the holistic development of our students.”

The partnership will see TECC assist IIT Guwahati in recruiting Mandarin language teachers who are experts in curriculum design and foreign language course evaluation. These teachers will conduct Mandarin classes at IIT Guwahati, helping students gain linguistic skills and cultural understanding that are crucial for pursuing internships and careers, particularly in Taiwan’s semiconductor and agritech sectors. IIT Guwahati, in turn, will provide the necessary infrastructure to establish a Taiwan Education Centre on its campus, where classes, seminars, and bilateral exchange programs will be conducted.

Mr. Peters Chen, Director of the Education Division TECC, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “IIT Guwahati, as one of the top universities in India, is not only the key driving force for northeast India but an accelerator for the semiconductor industry in India. It’s great that we will work together to provide students with Mandarin language skills, Taiwanese culture, and more exchange programs between universities in India and Taiwan. We will soon recruit a Taiwanese teacher to join the campus. The teacher will also hold the Test of Chinese Language as Foreign Language (TOCFL) on campus for students interested in obtaining the certification. Additionally, students will have better opportunities for further studies in Taiwan, majoring in fields of interest with scholarships.”

The MoU also marks the establishment of the 36th Taiwan Education Centre in India, a milestone for TECC, which has been actively promoting educational exchanges in the country. The collaboration aims to offer Indian students access to high-quality Mandarin instruction, equipping them with valuable linguistic and cultural skills that are increasingly vital in today’s interconnected world.

The partnership will also foster deeper ties between IIT Guwahati and Taiwanese universities, creating a robust network of academic exchanges and collaborative efforts. This initiative is expected to strengthen educational and cultural connections between India and Taiwan, benefiting students and faculty from both regions.

The MoU will remain in effect for three years, with provisions for amendment and extension, paving the way for a sustained and fruitful partnership between the two institutions.
