IIT Kharagpur elevates cultural exchange with students from MP as part of Yuva Sangam programme

MIDNAPORE, 25 NOV: In a groundbreaking display of cultural exchange and educational camaraderie, IIT Kharagpur inaugurated the third phase of the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Yuva Sangam’ programme, hosting a delegation of 50 students from IIITDM Jabalpur and other prestigious institutions in Madhya Pradesh. The week-long initiative, spanning from November 23rd to 29th, aims to foster a deeper understanding of traditions, heritage, and historical ties between West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh.

The visiting students were warmly welcomed by the Yuva Sangam team of IIT Kharagpur, initiating the program with an interactive session where they shared insights into their academic and cultural journeys. The focal points of the initiative include cultural exchange, promotion of tourism, and fostering engagement across different disciplines and backgrounds.

As part of the itinerary, the delegation explored the rich heritage sites of IIT Kharagpur, including the Nehru Museum of Science & Technology, Indian Knowledge System, and Bharat Tirtha. Prof. Amit Patra, Acting Director of IIT Kharagpur, addressed the delegation and lauded the government’s initiative, expressing his delight at witnessing students from diverse backgrounds coming together for this unique cultural exchange. Prof. Patra added a musical touch to the gathering by singing a song, an original English translation paying tribute to the legendary Rabindranath Tagore.

The program extends beyond the IIT Kharagpur campus, with scheduled visits to historical and cultural landmarks such as Rash Mancha, Jor Bangla Temple, Shyam-Rai Temple, Radha Madhav Temple, Lalbandh, Dalmadal, and Chhinnamasta Temple. The students will also engage in local sightseeing at Bishnupur and visit Sabang, Pingla, Naya, Birsingha, Dakhineshwar Temple, Victoria Memorial, Eden Gardens, Thakurbari Police Museum, Vidyasagar Industrial Park, and an industrial visit to JWS Cement Factory, among other locations.

Prof. Bhargab Maitra, Dean Student Affairs at IIT Kharagpur and the nodal officer of the program, expressed pride in the institute’s participation in this monumental initiative. He highlighted the program’s potential to shape the students’ perception of India’s cultural richness and diversity, providing them with valuable insights for future leadership roles in nation-building.

The Yuva Sangam Phase 3 follows the resounding success of its first phase, launched in February, which witnessed the participation of approximately 1200 youngsters visiting 22 Indian states. The success of this initiative underscores the commitment of IIT Kharagpur and the Ministry of Education to promoting holistic development and fostering a deep appreciation for India’s diverse cultural tapestry among the youth.
