Over 80% of BTech/Dual degree students already placed

CHENNAI, 15 MAY: IIT Madras continues to uphold its reputation as a premier educational institution, with the recent announcement that over 80% of its BTech and Dual-Degree students have already secured career opportunities, marking another successful placement season. With more than two months remaining until the 2024 convocation, the institute remains on track to match the impressive 90% placement rate achieved in the past two years.
As of 30th April 2024, the institute has successfully placed more than 75% of its Master’s students, further solidifying its position as a hub for talent across various disciplines. The placement statistics reveal a robust performance during the 2023-24 Phase I and Phase II campus placements, with 1,091 students securing placements in 256 companies. Additionally, out of 300 pre-placement offers extended, 235 were accepted, reflecting the confidence of both students and recruiters in the institute’s capabilities.
Noteworthy is the global appeal of IIT Madras, with companies from Japan, Europe, and other countries making 44 international offers to students. The rise of startups in the employment landscape is also evident, with 85 startups extending 183 offers during the campus placement phases.
Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, expressed satisfaction with the continuity of past trends in placements, reassuring parents about the promising career prospects for their children at the institute. Prof. Kamakoti emphasized the importance of fostering entrepreneurship among students, aligning with the institute’s goal of nurturing 100 tech startups in the upcoming year.
Commenting on the achievement, Prof. Satyanarayana Gummadi, Dean (Students) at IIT Madras, lauded the efforts of the Career Pathway Centre in guiding students towards diverse career opportunities. Despite the challenges posed by the past year, the high demand for IIT Madras graduates underscores the institute’s commitment to excellence in education and career development.
For PhD research scholars, placement dynamics differ due to the non-time-bound nature of the program. However, plans are underway to establish a dedicated research scholar placement cell to cater to their specialized needs and facilitate connections with relevant companies.
The median and average salary for placed students stand at ₹19.6 Lakhs and ₹22 Lakhs respectively, reflecting the competitive compensation packages offered to IIT Madras graduates.
As the institute marches towards its convocation, the success of its placement season reaffirms its standing as a beacon of academic excellence and a springboard to promising careers for its students.
