IIT Madras start-up offers free employability skills course to 5,000 EWS students

CHENNAI, 22 SEP: IIT Madras and IIM Ahmedabad-incubated Startup GUVI is launching a new Initiative called ‘Fly High’ to provide Free employability skilling to 5,000 Students from Economically Weaker Sections.

Being taken up in memory of its late Co-founder, the start-up is also launching ‘Sridevi Arunprakash Innovation Award,’ which carries a cash award of Rs. 1 lakh to recognize budding women entrepreneurs with remarkable innovations in EdTech industry.

The First Memorial Day of Ms. Sridevi Arunprakash was observed on 20th September 2021. Recognizing the barriers of students from weaker sections, the start-up is working to bridge the employability skill gap in IT and Software industry by providing an opportunity to students to upgrade themselves professionally through relevant technical skills.

Students getting selected for the ‘Fly High Initiative’ will be provided with a set of vernacular tech-courses, mentorship services from industry experts and training in skills to make them job-ready, completely free of cost.

Elaborating on these social initiatives, Mr. S.P. Balamurugan, Co-Founder of GUVI, said, “These initiatives are our way of paying tribute to Ms. Sridevi and a commitment from us to nurture tech talent and recognize women innovators across India. The entire GUVI team is behind these initiatives to make them successful.”

The award winner will be selected by an eminent panel comprising of stalwarts in the field of EdTech Industry through Investing, such as Ms. Ragini Chaudhary, Director Investments, Caspian Venture Capital & Private Equity firm.

Speaking about these initiatives, Mr. Arun Prakash, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, GUVI, said, “Ms. Sridevi always helped me in getting the right frame of reference to see the women in tech and their balancing acts for real-life challenges. This will be a starting point for all of us to walk in path of her vision for women in tech.”

Remembering the visionary thoughts of Ms. Sridevi Arunprakash who had said, “Education is priceless, no one can steal it from you” and “Focus on improving, not proving,” GUVI has pledged to impart coding skills by offering free access to its gamified programming practice platform, HackerKid, to over 1,000 children supported by Non-Governmental Organizations such as BalaMandir Kamaraj Trust.
