Trinamul Congress accused the Prime Minister of making it a personal event. Rajya Sabha MP Jawhar Sircar, while stating that MPs were not consulted before the event, wrote on Twitter, “Four lions of this regime watch as the PM lifts the 4 lions of the National Emblem on top of the new Parliament building. But MPs, who will occupy this building, were never consulted. Modi will now zap us with a mediocre architecture designed by his crony architect — at exorbitant costs.”

West Bengal Minister Dr Shashi Panja, meanwhile, implored on the BJP to think about the spirit of cooperative federalism. “AITC wishes to reiterate that this total lack of cooperative federalism, as observed yet again on Monday. The Hon’ble Prime Minister is present there, but none of the opposition party leaders are present,” Dr Panja stated.

The Bengal legislator added that there were several discrepancies in the National Emblem. “It is a disaster. The four lions, which should be a magnanimous and regal, appears aggressive and disproportionate. This is what happens when Opposition leaders are not taken into confidence and consulted. What a shame!”

Putting out photos of the old and new emblems on Twitter, Sircar added, “Insult to our national symbol, the majestic Ashokan Lions. Original is on the left, graceful and regally confident. The one on the right is Modi’s version, put above new Parliament building — snarling, unnecessarily aggressive and disproportionate. Shame! Change it immediately.”
